Bathroom and Kitchen Revamps
Kitchens and bathrooms are the two rooms that add the most value and get the most use. You don’t always need a full gut remodel to make a big difference. Here’s how to decide how far to go.
Refresh, Update or Remodel?
- Refresh (1–2 days): new backsplash, hardware, lighting, caulk and paint.
- Update (1–2 weeks): new countertops, vanity, flooring or a tile shower surround.
- Full remodel (2–6 weeks): new layout, cabinets, shower rebuild and everything down to the studs.
When a Bathroom Needs More Than a Refresh
Soft or loose tile, grout that keeps cracking, musty smells or stains on the ceiling below are signs of water behind the surface. Covering them up only hides the problem. The shower needs to be opened, dried out and rebuilt with proper waterproofing.
When a Kitchen Needs More Than a Refresh
Cabinets that sag or won’t close, swollen sink bases and a layout that doesn’t work are reasons to remodel. If the boxes are solid, new counters, a backsplash and hardware can make them look new.
